OVERVIEW

Breast Cancer Update CoverMedical oncologists and hematologists face a continuous barrage of clinical research reports spanning a spectrum of different cancer types. This may be overwhelming because it is often not possible for one individual to review and make sense of the massive volume of information across one, let alone many, malignancies. To provide a practical and efficient resource that clinicians can rely on to quickly yet effectively obtain an overview of emerging data and their application to current patient care, we are pleased to present our inaugural live Year in Review symposium in partnership with the Florida Cancer Specialists (FCS), a large physician practice group based on the west coast of Florida.

For this unique daylong event, we have recruited an exceptional faculty who will review many of the year’s most important new data sets and conference presentations in seven distinct tumor areas: breast cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, genitourinary cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia and multiple myeloma. These topics were selected for their relevance to clinical practice by a cohort of FCS medical oncologists.

To produce dynamic and entertaining discussion, we will employ an innovative format that will divide the meeting into several tumor-specific modules. Each module will feature didactic presentations by clinical investigators with expertise in the specified tumor types reviewing critical recent presentations and papers, case-based discussions using real but deidentified patients from the practices of the faculty members and follow-up Q&A. This design was selected to provide participants with the opportunity first to learn about important recent advances and their incorporation into current algorithms, then to observe practical examples of how this information can be applied to patient care and finally to facilitate the acquisition of further clarity on uncertain issues through question-and-answer interactions. As such, we believe the end result will be a practical, efficient and exciting review of key recent publications in medical oncology that will help better prepare those in attendance to provide optimal patient care.

I hope you will make plans to join us for what will be a most interesting event.
