This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of medical, surgical and radiation oncologists and hematologists.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES :
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Evaluate the implications of emerging clinical trial data, including those presented at the 2008 ASCO annual meeting in breast, gastrointestinal, thoracic, genitourinary and hematologic cancer, and apply relevant information to current clinical practice.
- Incorporate new data from ASCO plenary and poster sessions, other major oncology conferences and peer-reviewed publications into management strategies in the neoadjuvant, adjuvant, locally advanced, metastatic and preventive settings across numerous tumor types.
- Assess the ongoing trials in breast, gastrointestinal, thoracic, genitourinary and select hematologic cancers and their potential long-term impact on approaches to patient care.
- Appraise the rationale for targeting EGFR, VEGF and other cellular pathways and the current and future roles of monoclonal antibodies and tyrosine kinase inhibitors in the management of common malignancies.
- Review the findings from recent clinical trials designed to test the efficacy and safety of various combination chemotherapeutic approaches in patients with advanced-stage disease.
- Utilize individualized risk factors, cytogenetics and demographics to tailor therapy for patients with hematologic malignancies.
