Research To Practice (“RTP”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you access or use our websites, including https://www.researchtopractice.com and related RTP program websites (collectively, the “RTP websites” or the “Site”), and our associated services.

By accessing or using the Site, or by otherwise providing information to us, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy and that your information will be collected, used, and disclosed as described herein, subject to any rights you may have under applicable law.

1. Scope of This Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to all RTP websites and services that link to it. The researchtopractice.com website family includes various RTP-operated Internet locations, including but not limited to breastcancerupdate.com, colorectalcancerupdate.com, lungcancerupdate.com, and other disease- or program-specific websites and content developed by RTP, specifically for physicians and healthcare professionals. This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we collect, how we use it, how users may update or manage certain information, and the measures we use to help protect it.

2. Personal Information We Collect
We may collect the following categories of personal information:

A. Information You Provide
Information collected through the Site may include personally identifiable information (PII”), which is information that identifies an individual personally, such as first and last name, postal address, email address, telephone number, date of birth, or professional credentials.

We collect PII that you voluntarily provide. Examples include:

  • Registration information. A free registration process may be required for visitors to view detailed content and access the full range of services offered by the Site. Registration may require an email address, clinical specialty, and certain demographic information.
  • CME/NCPD participation information. When users participate in a continuing medical education (“CME”) or nursing continuing professional development (“NCPD”) activity (live or enduring) provided by RTP, they may be required to provide their name, street address, telephone number(s), fax number, email address, degree, specialty, and other information needed to administer the activity and issue credit or certificates.
  • NPI information. A National Provider Identifier (“NPI”) number may be required for participation in a CME or NCPD activity related to a federally mandated Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy for which participant tracking is required by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • ABIM MOC information. If you request Maintenance of Certification (“MOC”) credits through our CME activities, we may ask for your date of birth and American Board of Internal Medicine (“ABIM”) number, along with information relating to the CME activity in which you participated.
  •  Subscription, meeting, or event information. Users registering for subscription services, event attendance, or related RTP offerings may be asked to provide identifying and contact information as needed to process those requests.

The Site generally identifies which information is required and which is optional.

B. Information Collected Automatically
We and our services providers may automatically collect certain information

relating to your use of the Site, such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, referring/exit pages, date/time stamps, and general usage and interaction data. This information may be collected through cookies and similar technologies used to operate, secure, and improve the Site.

C. Information from Outside Sources
To verify the licensure status and identity of physicians or other healthcare professionals who register on RTP websites, RTP may collect information from other sources, including professional or licensure databases.

3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
A cookie is a small data file transferred to your device when you visit a website. RTP websites may use session cookies and persistent cookies to support core site functionality, remember preferences, analyze site usage, and improve the user experience. We may also use analytics tools to understand how visitors use the Site. This helps improve Site performance and usability.

Users may manage cookie preferences through their browser settings; however, disabling cookies may affect certain features of the Site.

RTP does not permit unaffiliated third parties to track users across the Site for their own advertising or marketing purposes.

4. How We Use Information
We may use PII and other information to:

  • provide access to Site content and services;
  • administer CME/NCPD activities, including scoring and certification;
  • process subscriptions, registrations, and user requests;
  • respond to inquiries and provide support;
  • validate professional credentials where appropriate;
  • communicate regarding RTP programs and services;
  • send marketing communications where permitted and consistent with user preferences;
  • perform internal business analysis and improve services;
  • maintain the security and integrity of the Site; and
  • comply with legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.

If non-identifiable data is combined with personal data, it will be treated as personal data.

5. Information Sharing and Disclosure

A. Personal Information
RTP may disclose PII only in limited circumstances, including the following:

  • Accrediting Organizations: RTP may report user participation to and share personal information, including name, address and NPI number, with accrediting or regulatory organizations, such as the Accreditation Council for CME (“ACCME”), American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC), the ABIM, state medical licensing boards, or organizations that are approved by the FDA to collect information on CME/NCPD related to a mandated Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy.
  • Educational Partners/Providers: On occasion, a third-party education provider or partner of a CME/NCPD activity on the Site (provider/partner) will request a list of the people who participated in a particular CME/NCPD activity that the provider/partner prepared or accredited, for the provider/partner’s record-keeping purposes only. In response to such a request, we will provide the provider/partner with the name, street address, email address, profession and specialty of each person who participated in that CME/NCPD activity.
  • Ineligible Company/Commercial Supporter: An “ineligible company” is defined by the ACCME as any entity whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, reselling or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients. An ineligible company that provides support to an RTP CME/NCPD activity is referred to as “the supporter.” RTP will not share the names or contact information of learners with any ineligible company (or its agents) without the explicit consent of the individual learner. Learners may opt out of such sharing at the time of registration without affecting their ability to participate in the CME/NCPD activity. Where applicable law independently requires disclosure, for example, if a supporter requests personal information in order to comply with the federal “Sunshine Act,” RTP will provide the relevant user PII as required by law. We do not share PII with or sell PII to any unaffiliated third parties or commercial supporters for their own marketing purposes or for any purpose outside what is outlined above. These disclosures are limited to what is required by applicable law or accreditation requirements and are not for marketing purposes.
  • Companies and People Who Work for RTP: RTP contracts with other companies and individuals to help us provide services. For example, we may host some of our RTP websites on another company’s computers, hire technical consultants or work with other companies to remove repetitive information from customer lists, analyze data, provide marketing assistance and provide customer service. In addition, we may validate a user’s licensure status as a healthcare professional and other information using available databases that list licensed healthcare professionals. RTP shares such information subject to confidentiality and limited use obligations, consistent with this Privacy Policy.
  • ABIM MOC: A user may request their CME credit be transferred to the ABIM for MOC credit (select programs only). In order to transfer credits successfully, RTP is required to distribute PII to the ABIM through a portal located on the ACCME website (ACCME PARS). PII for the successful transfer of CME to MOC credits includes name, date of birth and ABIM number and relevant information related to the CME activity in which the learner has participated (activity name, credit hours, etc.). No additional personal data is shared beyond what is necessary. RTP obtains the learner’s permission before sharing credit information with the ABIM or any other certifying board via ACCME PARS.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose PII to other entities as we believe to be appropriate in the following circumstances: (i) when required by applicable law, including laws outside a user’s country of residence; (ii) to comply with legal process; (iii) to respond to requests from public and government authorities; (iv) to enforce the terms and conditions for use of the Site, including this Privacy Policy; (v) to protect and defend RTP’s rights and property; (vi) to protect the interests and safety of RTP or others; and (vii) to permit RTP to pursue available remedies or limit damages that we may sustain. We will provide notice of such disclosures where required by applicable law.
  • Acquirers or Assignees: In the event of any reorganization, merger, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer or other disposition of all or any portion of RTP or its assets, we may transfer any and all information that we collect from Site users to the acquiring party or assignee.

Other than in the cases described in this policy, RTP will not release PII to a third party without the user’s consent. Also, if we request consent to release information to a third party, we will make our best efforts to clearly define and limit the scope of that consent.

RTP may process personal information in coordination with accrediting organizations and educational partners in connection with CME/NCPD activities, as described above.

B. Other Information
RTP aggregates non-PII data about users for program-use analysis, program development, activity planning and site improvement. We may also use it for market analysis and provide information from RTP websites in aggregate form, all completely without identification of users, to third parties. For example, we may tell a commercial supporter what percentage of our registered users reside in a particular geographical area or which user practice specialties are named by users.

6. No Sale of Personal Information; No Targeted Advertising
RTP does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

7. Social Networking and Third-Party Platforms
RTP may maintain a presence on third-party social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others. RTP does not control and is not responsible for the privacy practices of those platforms.

8. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:

  • access personal information we hold about you;
  • correct or update inaccurate information;
  • request deletion of certain personal information;
  • object to certain processing activities; and
  • opt out of marketing communications.

California Residents: Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents may have additional rights, including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. As stated in Section 6, RTP does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise your California privacy rights, please contact us at the address below.

Requests may be submitted to info@researchtopractice.com. To protect user information, we may limit responses to the information associated with the contact details used to submit the request and may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before responding.

A. Managing Your Information
Users may review, update, or correct certain PII by visiting the “my account” page on the Site. If that page cannot be located, please contact us.

B. Marketing Communications / Opt-Out
Users may opt out of promotional communications by using the unsubscribe link in emails or by contacting us.

Opting out does not mean that you will no longer receive service-related messages or other communications from RTP regarding transactions you undertake with us. You may continue to receive those (unless we have indicated otherwise). If you do not wish to receive those communications, or you subsequently change your mind, please contact us.

C. How to Lodge a Complaint
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us using the contact information below. We will endeavor to address your concerns in a timely manner.

9. Data Retention
We may retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to comply with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and operational requirements. For example, CME/NCPD participation records may be retained for a minimum of six (6) years, or longer if required by the applicable accrediting organization or regulation. In certain cases, accrediting organizations or applicable regulations may require RTP to retain information for specified or longer periods.

10. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. However, no system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Communications over the internet are not fully secure and may pass through multiple jurisdictions as part of standard network operations.

Users should accordingly exercise caution when transmitting sensitive information electronically, and are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their account credentials.

In the event of a data breach that compromises personal information, RTP will notify affected individuals and applicable regulatory authorities as required by law.

11. International Access
RTP operates in the United States. Personal information may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where RTP or its service providers operate.

12. Third-Party Websites
The Site may contain links to third-party websites. RTP is not responsible for their privacy practices or content.

13. Children’s Privacy
The Site is intended for healthcare professionals and adult users and is not directed to children. RTP does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date.
